The T450's that do come with an SSD are using the Samsung PM851 SSD (according to the web) which is mSATA interface and not M.2 as you mentioned above. These are 2 different form factors. The photos you posted above are for M.2 slots and are not comparable with your laptop.

Planning on getting the cheapest option of t450s with the exception of the upgraded 1080p(no touch). I will then just upgrade to 12gb and ssd from somewhere cheaper such as crucial products.Do you guys think it would be more useful to have 3rd m.2 ssd slot or the smart card option?

To further add to the (my) confusion, the T450s Base Specification says "Single-sided M.2 SSD, via M.2 card slot". I haven't been able to chase down information on whether the available 256GB drives are single- or double-sided. It may or may not be an issue. Apologies for not having clear answers.
